About Us

Karmi Farm was originally known as Karmi Estate and was the family home of my mother, Deki Pulger. My mothers family has been associated with this area for over 200 years and I have been visiting Karmi all my life. My father, Ronald Frame, was a Scottish tea planter who came to this area in 1950 and met and married my mother 10 years later. My two younger brothers and myself were brought up on a tea garden that my father managed in the Darjeeling area up until 1967 after which my family left India. As young boys, visiting our grandparents at Karmi was always an exciting and eagerly awaited trip. At that
time the journey from the tea garden involved a 5 hour drive by jeep followed by a 3 hour pony ride. Karmi was at the time run as a dairy and arable farm up until my grandmother, due to failing health, left to live her final years with my mother in the UK. I returned to take over Karmi in late 1998 and live there for most of each year with my mother. I have known the people that live around Karmi all my life so by being our guests you are invited to experience a unique insight into the lives of our community by someone who was lucky enough to be born to parents of both west and east.
